Nas part of an investigation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples North, the Carabinieri of the Naples Station Trentola Ducenta they executed an order for the application of precautionary measures issued by the judge for preliminary investigations of the Court of Naples North against seven people (one of whom was placed under pre-trial detention in prison, three under house arrest, two under a ban on residence and one under an obligation to report to the PG), domiciled in the provinces of Naples and Caserta, seriously suspected of the crimes of criminal association aimed at the theft of cars and the consequent extortion using the so-called "cavallo di ritorno" method.

The measure was the result of investigations promptly launched by the Carabinieri who had registered a significant increase in car thefts in the municipalities of the Aversa countryside starting from last March.
The judicial police reached the ascertainment of the crimes and the identification of those responsible through the complaints of the injured parties, the analysis of telephone and telematic traffic records, statements, the recognition of two of the seven suspects by two witnesses, and the acquisition of frames from private video surveillance systems.
Four of the suspects were specialized in car thefts and one of them, with the collaboration of a fifth individual, committed extortion against the victims of the thefts. The victims were contacted by telephone by the suspects who demanded sums of money, usually around 1000 euros, for the return of the stolen vehicle. The other two suspects, owner and employee of a car rental company, provided the perpetrators of the crimes, for the time strictly necessary, with the cars they used to commit the illegal activity, registering the rental contract to unsuspecting individuals unconnected to the facts.
