Naples. Condolences and emotion for the last farewell to Tullio Pironti, the publisher of Piazza Dante.
This afternoon the funeral of the esteemed publisher was held in the Church of Caravaggio in Piazza Dante, a few meters from his bookstore. Numerous testimonies arrived from the world of politics and publishing who came today. One of the first to remember him was the former president of the Region Antonio Bassolino, linked to Pironti by a sincere friendship. "We have just given a final affectionate farewell to Tullio Pironti and already his Piazza Dante seems different to us, without him. A kiss, Tullio", wrote Bassolino, candidate for mayor of Naples, in a post on his Facebook profile this afternoon.
Condolences to the family were also expressed by the President of the Chamber, Roberto Fico, on Twitter: "With the passing of Tullio Pironti, Naples loses a point of reference. A courageous and intuitionful publisher and bookseller, he played a central role in the city's culture and beyond. My closeness to his loved ones."
“Naples has lost an intuitive and courageous intellectual. Tullio Pironti, the publisher-boxer, passed away yesterday at 84, but he leaves us a luminous legacy made up of his memories and the bookstore-forge in Piazza Dante”. This was stated by the Undersecretary for European Affairs Enzo Amendola, expressing his condolences for the passing of the Neapolitan publisher Tullio Pironti. “Thanks to him – said Amendola – cult authors such as Bret Easton Ellis, Don De Lillo and Raymond Carver were known for the first time in Italy. And thanks to him, 'Il Camorrista' by Giuseppe Marrazzo was published, which inspired Tornatore. The world of culture today is poorer. And Naples and Italy are lonelier without his gaze”.
"The passing of Tullio Pironti takes away from us a man of profound culture, a lover of Naples. I have very fond memories of Tullio, for his frankness and his humanity. A true Neapolitan. We are close to his family, his friends and all those who were fortunate enough to know him." This is the message of condolence from the mayor of Naples Luigi de Magistris.
“Farewell to Tullio Pironti, a unique and original figure of Naples. First a career as a boxer, then a publisher engaged in the 'heart' of the ancient center of the metropolis: he loved direct contact with people, especially with young people, with students, for whom he was an example. He was a point of reference for culture in Naples, both for that of a cultured soul, and for that of more popular expression. We remember him with great esteem and affection”. The president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, wrote on Facebook.
