Sony Music Entertainment’s Premium Content Division, in partnership with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, announces the release of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s feature film “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts,” featuring 10 previously unreleased performances from the MUSE benefit concert at Madison Square Garden, as well as a complete recording of the evening’s setlist.
Created by longtime Springsteen collaborator Thom Zimny from the original 16mm concert recordings and remixed with audio by Bob Clearmountain, “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts” represents one of the finest Bruce Springsteen performances ever released in high quality, retaining the energy and explosiveness of the few existing footage from the E Street Band era. “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts” will be released in HD on November 19 as 2CD/DVD, 2CD/Blu-ray, and 2LP.
The film will also be available worldwide in HD for digital download from November 16 and on streaming platforms from November 23.
“A few years ago I started going through archive footage of Bruce and the Band’s appearances at the 1979 No Nukes Tour” says Thom Zimny.
“I immediately realized that these were the finest performances and footage from the band’s legendary 20s, and I was committed to bringing out the full potential of the recordings. Having served as Bruce’s principal director and editor for the past XNUMX years, I can confidently say that this newly re-edited, remixed and restored XNUMX-minute film is the finest possible standard of Bruce and the Band during one of their greatest creative periods.”
“The 1979s were a golden age in the history of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and the legendary XNUMX No Nukes concert is the greatest document of that era we will ever have,” said Jon Landau. “It's a pure rock show from start to finish, the energy level is transcendent and the mastery of the art of live rock music leaves everyone speechless”.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer audiences around the world the opportunity to witness these groundbreaking performances,” said Tom Mackay, President of Premium Content, a division of Sony Music Entertainment.
“The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts is a rare opportunity to experience an event that has become a classic and marked a pivotal moment for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.”Featuring the best of two performances captured during the “No Nukes” tour, the film captures the intensity of Bruce Springsteen’s marathon and the E Street Band spectacle in one blistering 90-minute film.
Highlights include previously unreleased versions of “The River” and “Sherry Darling,” live versions of “Badlands,” “Born To Run,” and “Thunder Road,” plus covers of Buddy Holly’s “Rave On” and a version of Maurice Williams’ “Stay” with special guests Jackson Browne, Tom Petty, and Rosemary Butler. Noted film producer Jon Kilik, who worked on the No Nukes concert camera crew and wrote the liner notes, says, “The magic was in the air. The energy on stage and from the crowd was beyond measure and description.”
“The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts” were recorded while Springsteen and the E Street Band were composing the album The River and immediately following the conclusion of the 1978 Darkness Tour, which had given audiences the opportunity to witness the future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees live at the height of their rise to worldwide fame.
