Loreto Mare will have five days to convert the hospital facility into a Covid hospital.
The general management of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro has announced a measure made necessary by the exponential increase in infections, in line with what was established by the Regional Crisis Unit.
The measure is made necessary by a constantly escalating contagion situation, which requires a rapid and concrete remodulation of the offer of beds dedicated to the Covid-19 network based on both the new cases that are recorded daily and the estimates of the forecast models.
In recent weeks, in fact, we have been witnessing a considerable increase in cases of positivity to Covid-19 and in the number of patients requiring hospitalization.
In light of all this, the Regional Crisis Unit (note prot. no. 1435 of 28.12.2021) has once again highlighted the urgency of continuing to adapt, together with the strengthening of intensive care beds to be dedicated to Covid patients, the process of reconverting ordinary hospital beds into Covid beds, also by restoring solutions already adopted in previous months with reference to entirely dedicated hospital facilities.
“It is necessary to ensure adequate healthcare provision to support the increase in Covid-19 cases – explains the general manager Ciro Verdoliva –. A decision that we did not want to have to make, but which now becomes unavoidable."
Therefore, by Monday 3 January, 50 ordinary Covid-19 hospital beds will be reactivated at the Santa Maria del Loreto Nuovo hospital in Naples, in addition to the beds dedicated to Covid-19 and already active at the Ospedale del Mare (24 intensive care beds in the modular structures and 47 ordinary hospital beds in the day surgery area).
The general management of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro has also ordered, in order to guarantee continuity of care for patients affected by pathologies that cannot be suspended or postponed, the temporary transfer of the Hematology and Oncology Operating Units to the San Giovanni Bosco hospital.
To ensure the necessary assistance to Covid patients, all care activities of the Complex Operating Unit of General Medicine of San Giovanni Bosco are temporarily suspended with the redistribution of staff to the ordinary Covid wards of the Santa Maria di Loreto Nuovo and Ospedale del Mare hospital facilities.
