“Land of Fires”, 6 businesses and shops seized. Record fines: half a billion in sanctions imposed
Important results achieved by the Italian Army patrols employed in Operation “Terra dei Fuochi” during Action Day (an extraordinary joint control operation against the illegal disposal and burning of industrial, artisanal and commercial waste) on 20 and 21 April in the municipalities of San Nicola la Strada and Napoli-Ponticelli.
The Italian Army, together with the Police, have carried out new checks to combat environmental crimes in the two municipalities of Caserta and Naples, where 6 business and commercial activities were checked and seized, which were fined a total of 458.000 Euros in administrative sanctions, 19 people identified (of which 6 reported and 3 fined), 48 vehicles checked and subsequently seized.
Thus, the effort to repress and prevent the illegal abandonment of waste continues, according to the planning established in the coordination plan of the Prefecture of Naples with the Prefecture of Caserta, the Police Headquarters of Naples and Caserta and with the other Police Forces of the Provinces, based on the planning proposed by the Person in Charge of combating the phenomenon of fires in the Campania region.
In fact, 24 crews were employed for a total of 45 men deployed jointly by the Italian Army based on the 8th Bersaglieri Regiment, the State Police of Caserta and Ponticelli, the Carabinieri of Ponticelli, the Forestry Carabinieri of San Gregorio Matese and Naples, the Metropolitan Police of Naples, the Guardia di Finanza of Caserta and Naples, the Guardia di Finanza ROAN of Naples, the Municipal Police of Naples, the Municipal Environmental Police of San Giovanni, the Provincial Police of Caserta and the ICQRF of the Guardia di Finanza. To support the operational activities on the ground, a ROAN crew (Air and Naval Operations Department) of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples and an Army crew using a drone (remotely piloted aircraft) were employed which, as a premise and during the operations, allowed air control and information research on the sites being checked, with air overflights aimed at identifying areas intended for illicit dumping and possible activities attributable to them.
