At the Nostos Theatre in Aversa, “Mimì and the Volleyball Girls. Where Mimì stands for Domenico”, from the true story of the transsexual volleyball player Tiffany Pereira de Abreu
Sunday 8 May at 19 pm, the Nostos Teatro will stage “Mimì and the volleyball girls. Where Mimì stands for Domenico” by Sara Sole Notarbartolo, inspired by the true story of Tiffany Pereira de Abreu, a transsexual volleyball player.
The story of the protagonist of the show, Mimì, a volleyball player with the myth of Mimì Ayuhara, recalls that of the Brazilian champion, who joined the women's team of Golem Palmi in 2017 and is currently playing in the A series in Brazil. Tiffany is a transsexual volleyball player, born a man, with the name of Rodrigo.
“Our Mimì, played by the exceptional actress and singer Fabiana Russo, is the little Domenico Carrarmarto, born in the province of Naples, with a great talent for volleyball and the certainty of not being in the right body – explains the director and author -. The battle that Domenico, known as Mimì, is waging is against the terror of facing a change that he feels is indispensable and that could make him lose his family affections, the esteem he has earned in his profession and, in practice, everything he has built. This story was born thanks to interviews with people who have experienced first-hand the battle for LGBT rights in sports and in many areas of life and work”.

“Many people have tried to stop me from playing,” Tiffany De Abreu said. “If I could talk to the me of ten years ago again, I would tell her: ‘go ahead without fear because, even if you don’t know it yet, you are a winner.’ Thank you for this show, I am sure it will help many people.”
Paolo Valerio, professor of clinical psychology at the Federico II University, as well as president of the National Observatory on Gender Identity and of the Foundation for Gender Identity Culture, added regarding the show: “The work, written and directed by Sara Sole Notarbartolo and brought to the stage by the very talented Fabiana Russo, deserved the long applause of the audience and should be brought to schools and seen by all those who are interested in knowing more about the transgender world and in dispelling the stereotypes and prejudices that surround it”.
