Naples, Maresca: “Crime situation is very serious. Out of control and there seems to be no way out”
"The crime situation is unfortunately very serious. I understand the mayor who is trying to pour water on the fire. But as we have been saying for a while now, it is now clear to everyone that the situation is out of control. And even more disheartening is that there does not seem to be a way out”.
Thus in a note Catello Maresca, city councilor of Naples, on the latest episodes of crime in the city and in the province.
“We are witnessing the usual indecent buck-passing – Maresca attacks – When it was time to be in the front row with Minister Lamorgese to sign useless protocols, the highest institutions were all there in front of the cameras. I asked to participate to give a contribution of merit, thinking I had some experience to put at the service of my city. I was told that it was not possible and that we would certainly be involved.
Maybe that moment hasn't come yet, but in the meantime people are hitting each other with helmets (on the nuns' beach in Posillipo), kids are stabbing each other (in Marechiaro and Melito) and crime is spreading, starting to kill again (as happened in Soccavo)”.
“What more does it take to intervene? – the councilor asks – Today I presented a request to Councilor De Iesu to understand if there is a control plan at least for the beaches now that we are approaching summer. And don't tell us that there is no money, because it is wasted on interns, Facebook live and questionable promotional campaigns, for tons of assignments and then there is none for the important things?”
“What is the point of the much-vaunted Pact for Naples if the city is not made safe and livable? After months of commitments and promises, the time has come for action. The Administration is paid to provide answers, not to discover the obvious things that we Neapolitans know all too well. Those who are not capable of doing otherwise should have the goodness to go home”, he concludes.
