Napoli. A 'crazy' car that loses control, skids, hits another car, then runs over a mother with a child, who dies instantly. A tragedy this morning that occurred on Via Marco Polo, a street in the Neapolitan neighborhood of Cavalleggeri d'Aosta. The driver of the Suzuki was a 51-year-old Neapolitan who remains under investigation at large for road homicide pending toxicology tests.
The most plausible hypothesis is that it was a moment of distraction by the driver, perhaps due to the cell phone that was found on the floor in the passenger compartment. The investigation is being conducted by the municipal police who seized the car's black box and especially the man's cell phone to understand if it was in use at the time of the tragic impact.
The three-year-old boy died shortly after being rescued. The mother was only grazed. After the accident, a crowd of residents brutally attacked the 51-year-old, who was also stunned by the impact and was literally saved from lynching by the arrival of the municipal police.
