July is closed for the Campania with an occupancy rate of the facilities above 80%, the trend for August is growing and we are heading towards sold out, at least in the locations that are most attractive for national and international flows.
It is the summer of recovery and relaunch for the most populous region of the South, from Naples to Cilento, from the Amalfi Coast to Pompeii. The optimism expressed in recent months by industry insiders is confirmed by the numbers recorded in the first part of the season. The dark period of the pandemic now seems to be behind us and the rise in infections in recent weeks has not discouraged vacationers, who are ready to accept even the price increases, which on average are around 10-15%.
For the regional capital, Federalberghi Napoli reports an average room occupancy of 80% in July. Levels similar to those of 2019, the last summer without Covid and with the Universiade, which represented an additional attraction. A flow of tourists that, combined with the need to optimize fixed costs, means that around 49% of commercial establishments are open on the days of Ferragosto, according to estimates by Confesercenti.
Numbers replicated also on the Amalfi Coast, in the Sorrento Peninsula and on the islands, with the boom in Procida, boosted by the recognition of Italian Capital of Culture 2022.
In the days around Ferragosto and for the second part of the month, the definitive consolidation of this trend is expected. Those who choose these places are mainly Campanians and Italians, who this year too are orienting themselves towards the proximity vacation; but the novelty is the mass return of foreign tourists, Americans, Germans and Japanese above all, who do not make the Russians feel the lack.
Federalberghi points out to AGI that visitors from the US represent almost 50% of the tourists in the city, in contrast to the recent past, also thanks to the favorable currency exchange rate. And so at Molo Beverello we see the flow of people and the rush for embarkations to the islands, with everything sold out by the end of July and the numbers for 2019 that have already been smashed. Over the last weekend, there were about 15 thousand arrivals in the ports of Ischia.
Air traffic is also clearly recovering: 1,2 million passengers passed through Capodichino airport in July, with a 7% increase compared to 2019. The Campi Flegrei are also doing very well, driven by the flow of visitors headed to Procida, as is Cilento, which in addition to its beaches stands out for cultural and religious tourism.
From Castellabate to Paestum, from Palinuro to Agropoli, passing through Marina di Camerota and Acciaroli, many facilities are already sold out, thanks also to the flow of many Campanians who have chosen a zero-mile holiday. The internal areas are also doing well. While in international locations such as Capri, Sorrento or Amalfi it is almost impossible to find a place even in September.
