The Campania Audiovisual District begins its work. The Campania Region with the Film Commission begins the Bagnoli construction site.
A protagonist of the film and television scene, Campania is about to equip itself with the first territorial audiovisual district. The Campania Region with the Film Commission Regione Campania officially launches the works of the Campania Audiovisual District - Digital and Creative Animation Hub and the beginning of the construction site in Bagnoli (Na) for the adaptation of Building D, located in Parco San Laise, former Ciano College and former headquarters of the NATO command for Southern Europe. Financed by the Campania Region, through the Development and Cohesion Fund (FSC), for a total amount of Euro 4.200.000, the project, which aims to become the second national production hub after Cinecittà, has the objective of strengthening the attractiveness of Campania in terms of infrastructure, supporting the growth of the regional sector, encouraging the aggregation of professionals and companies in the sector, and the meeting between supply and demand of services. As well as completing the production chain in innovative and strategic sectors such as digital image processing, visual effects and animation.
With the completion of the works scheduled for the end of 2023, the District is designed as a place of convergence of five specific functions. While the first basement level will be used as a restoration laboratory, archive and storage room, the second level opens up to the more operational activities of the Campania hub and consists of a Cineporto (function 1) with large spaces dedicated to the creation of productions that will be able to use offices, casting rooms, tailoring, laboratories for technical departments, and an Incubator (function 2) for the establishment of regional companies in different areas and services. These are two interconnected areas in a logic of integration and aggregation aimed at strengthening the productive capacity of the territory and the competitiveness of Campania companies on the markets. The third level hosts a Study and Documentation center (function 3), aimed at establishing a social Media library, which will launch an important Public History project to reconstruct the recent social history of the territory, starting from the visual memory of the San Laise Park and the Bagnoli neighborhood. On the same floor there are also common areas and exhibition rooms. The fourth level is intended to house the technological equipment of the Digital and Creative Animation Hub (function 4) with a color grading and audio mixing room, render farm and animation laboratories: an advanced technological hub to complete the local production chain and encourage production and experimentation activities in sectors with a high innovation content. In addition, co-working areas and meeting rooms, a screening room, refreshment areas, classrooms and laboratories for training will be set up on the floor. The training activities (function 5) whose establishment is planned in the District will guarantee, also through the on-the-job training model, opportunities for professional growth and entry into the world of work in all segments of the production chain.
Campania is today one of the regions most present in the audiovisual panorama also thanks to the effective policy of attraction and support ensured in recent years by the FCRC, both to the great TV series and films, including international ones, and to the lively and competitive Campania production, but above all to the incisiveness of the Regional Law 30/16 "Cinema Campania" and the further interventions of the Campania Region, which has allocated investments of over €50 million to the audiovisual sector starting from 2017. No less important, the activities ensured within the systemic framework of the Law for the development and internationalization of companies and the growth of talents and professionals of the Campania audiovisual sector have given a new impetus to the traditional creativity of the local sector, encouraging the growth of a new generation of authors and producers. Article 13 of Law 30/16 entrusts the regional Film Commission with the task of supporting the development of the local sector and of the material and immaterial infrastructures necessary for the lasting rooting of the sector's production activities in the Campania region. It is in this context that the Campania Audiovisual District project is placed, with the specific aims of improving the reception of productions attracted from outside as well as relaunching the business capacity and innovation potential of the regional sector to promote the increase of economic and employment benefits, directly and indirectly linked to the audiovisual sector.
