Schools for the ecological transition: environmental and energy education courses

Campania, thanks also to the resources of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, is called to play a leading role in the ecological transition. Sustainability, in addition to being necessary to address the climate crisis, reduces the risk profiles for businesses and for society as a whole, stimulates innovation and entrepreneurship, makes production chains more competitive. In this context, Legambiente Campania presents, together with green partner companies, a new campaign "Green energy revolution" educational and training courses linked to energy education, sustainable development and the approach to green jobs, sponsored by the Regional School Office, which will involve ten schools in Campania.
The campaign will be presented on Thursday 27 October at 10.00 am at Innovation village – Città della Scienza Napoli in the presence of Mariateresa Imparato, president of Legambiente Campania, Giorgio Zampetti, Director of Legambiente, Francesca De Falco, Director of UOD Energy, energy efficiency and saving, Green Economy and Bioeconomy of the Campania Region, Simona Brancaccio, Director of Technical Administrative Staff – Environmental Assessments of the Campania Region and representatives of the partner companies Domenico Marinelli, Head of Development Campania Head of Development Italia EDP; Diego Carbone, Senior Development Manager Renewables – ENGIE Italia; Giacomo Ciacci, CEO INERGIA and Marcella Mignosa, Local affairs ERG.
Campania is already one of the southern regions with the highest installed power, but it can still do much more by applying to be a true "renewable energy hub". In fact, in the era of energy transition, to combat climate change and completely reduce dependencies on gas, each territory will be called upon to do its part by installing wind, photovoltaic, agrivoltaic, biomass systems that will increasingly require scientific and technical skills to implement them as well as urban, environmental, social, cultural and educational regeneration processes. From this perspective, schools can represent a fundamental educational tool and vehicle on a cultural and social level with respect to energy issues and, more generally, sustainability, accompanying and guiding boys and girls to be active protagonists of fair, supportive and sustainable development. The educational and training paths will use active and participatory methodologies (workshops, laboratories, co-design activities, guided visits to companies and universities, analysis and monitoring, Citizen science actions); These actions will pay particular attention to the involvement of girls in overcoming gender stereotypes and increasing female employment.
After all, there is a Campania that can be a protagonist, despite the crisis, which makes the ecological transition an opportunity to innovate and become more capable of facing the future. According to the GreenItaly Report promoted by the Symbola Foundation (2022), in Campania there are over 46 thousand companies (equal to 8,6% of the eco-investing companies in the country) that in the five-year period 2017-2021 have decided to invest in green technologies and products, placing themselves in fourth place in Italy in terms of number of companies.
At the provincial level in absolute terms, after Milan, Rome, we find Naples with 22.450 companies. In the provincial ranking in 10th place we find Salerno with 9.950 companies and Caserta in 16th place with 8.070 companies confirming the good performance of the region. In terms of incidence of companies that invest in green technologies on the total number of companies present in the province, Caserta is in fourth place in the ranking with 42,1%.
In terms of employment, 2021 confirms itself as a year of consolidation despite the serious difficulties generated by the pandemic. In Italy, contracts relating to green jobs – with activation in 2021 – represent 34,5% of the new contracts expected in the year. In Campania, 126.700 contracts were activated, corresponding to 36,2% of the new contracts expected in the year at the regional level, a percentage higher than the national average (34,6%). At the provincial level, Naples ranks third after Milan and Rome with 66.960 new contracts, while Salerno is further down the ranking with 26.260 contracts.
