On the A/1 motorway, two people travelling on board a Fiat Panda were stopped by officers from the Highway Police Sub-section of Cassino near the toll booth.
During the document check it emerged that one of the two arrested, among the numerous police records, also had the obligation to reside in the municipality of Naples, for the crime of defrauding the elderly. Furthermore, both gave conflicting versions about their trip. The officers then proceeded to check the car and the two occupants.
A sum of money of almost 500 euros and a debit card registered to a woman were found on the driver. While in the dashboard of the car a package with numerous gold jewels was found. Further investigations allowed to discover that both the money and the jewels were the result of a scam to the detriment of an elderly lady resident in the province of Rome.
The modus operandi is always the same. After receiving a phone call from a person who told her that her son needed money to avoid a legal problem, shortly after a man showed up at the lady's house and asked for the money to be handed over to resolve the relative's legal dispute.
The latter was identified by the victim, who in the meantime had gone to the Tivoli police station to report the scam. The two men, by order of the judicial authority, were arrested and taken to the Cassino prison.
