Retrospective exhibition on the genius of Gianni Versace. From Saturday 3 December, the exhibition will be open to the public and will be open until 7 May 2023.
There is also Naples in Gianni Versace Retrospective, the exhibition that opens at the Groninger Museum in Groningen, the Netherlands. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with – among others – the collector Antonio Caravano and the curator of the collection Sabina Albano.
The choice of date is not accidental: it is his birthday. This year also marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of his death. From Saturday, December 3, the exhibition will be open to the public and will be open until May 7, 2023: the exhibition will take visitors into the eccentric world of the Italian designer of extravagant clothes and sumptuous fashion shows in which clothing, pop music and design blend together in a spectacular way.
“My desire is to constantly enhance the language of fashion that interprets time – says Albano – It is a timeline that goes from the past to the present, almost like archaeological finds with which to decipher our worlds."
Gianni Versace Retrospective is the largest exhibition ever of the Italian designer’s work, showcasing clothing, accessories, fabrics, drawings, interior design and footage of legendary shows dating back to the Italian designer’s glory days between 1989 and 1997, all a testament to his extraordinary creativity.
Gianni Versace merged fashion with music, photography and graphic design and pioneered the transformation of fashion shows and advertising campaigns into works of art.
He managed to bring together the arts like no one had done before. All the objects on display are original pieces, coming from international private collections. Sabina Albano thus continues her journey-homage into the world of the designer, which began 5 years ago at the Mann in Naples with the exhibition “Dialoghi / Dissing – Gianni Versace Magna Grecia Tribute” curated by her and which in just over 2 months has gathered more than 100 thousand visitors. From 19 to 22 January 2023 she will create 'One Night with Gianni / Gianni Versace Baroque tribute' in the Palazzo Biscari in Catania. The project will underline the strong topicality of Versace's styles.
