These are hours of concern in Capua for the conditions of the Volturno river, whose level has risen dangerously due to the abundant and persistent rains of recent days.

The Mayor Adolfo Villani has ordered the closure of schools of all levels for today. In the upper Caserta area the river has already overflowed in some places and also in Capua, flooding some streets.
Already yesterday evening the note of the Lower Volturno Basin Land Reclamation Consortium, addressed not only to Capua but also to the mayors of grazzanise, Gate and Arnone and Castel Volturno, warned the administrations announcing that the Volturno is affected by an event of “exceptional full”.
The flood will affect the lower course of the river for the whole day of January 19th". Shortly after 6, however, on the A1 Milan-Naples, as reported by the press office of Highways, the stretch between Capua and Santa Maria Capua Vetere has been reopened in both directions, closed during the night as a precaution due to the Volturno river reaching critical levels.
At the moment, traffic is moving on a single lane in both directions at the bridge over the Volturno River, at km 726, and there is a 1 km tailback in the direction of Rome.
Continuous monitoring of the banks
For this reason, constant monitoring of the banks and bridges has been arranged "so that any blockage of the hydraulic section can be promptly removed". The volumes of rain that have fallen are such as to predict a very long flood event.
