A female prison police officer was attacked this afternoon in the women's prison in Pozzuoli for no reason whatsoever with a violent punch to the temple by a prisoner of Italian origin, transferred from Rome while waiting to be placed in a rems.
The agent was rescued by 118 doctors, who diagnosed her with facial trauma with a 4-day prognosis: the Regional Secretary of OSAPP Polizia made this known
Campania Penitentiary Vincenzo Palmieri.
“The violent conduct, repeated by the Roman prisoner, who has been the protagonist of as many attacks in other penitentiary facilities, affected by serious problems related to mental health, for privacy we omit to indicate the pathologies, from the beginning of her assignment she has argued in the ATSM detention ward with all the other prisoners, annoying and hindering the normal treatment path, disturbing the order due to her angry and offensive conduct towards others”.
The Regional Secretary OSAPP Campania-Vincenzo Palmieri explained. In the circumstances of the attack, in addition to the prison officer, only the psychiatric was present and therefore they alone were unable to calm her down.
“Despite the previous letters sent by the undersigned secretary - Palmieri continues - there continues to be a shortage of specialized health professionals (psychiatrists, nurses, assistants, rehabilitation technicians, social health workers, etc.) for the management of people deprived of liberty affected by mental illnesses, however, all precautions must be taken to defend ourselves from attacks.
In the meantime, we hope for decisive interventions by the PRAP at the competent health service, aimed at increasing the number of health workers expected in the detention department in question for a more optimal organization that safeguards the health of everyone and of the Pozzuoli Penitentiary Police who must guarantee safety. Our solidarity and closeness goes to the Colleague”.
