After the release of “Santoor Suite n.1 (dedicated to Francesca)”, Aventino Music presents “Santoor Suite no.2”, the second work by Paolo Tofani dedicated to the santoor, an Iranian musical instrument.
As Tofani himself recalls, “The album was recorded with a Tascam recorder in the gardens of a villa in Los Angeles in the nineties with a santoor built in India according to the traditional Kashmir model”.
The work unfolds through five pieces that highlight Paolo's great creative energy. The compositional method, which Paolo himself defines as "spontaneous music", is realized in the personal path of synthesis in following the combinatorial flows of improvisation to create designs that are always new and coherent in language and form.
“These compositions are fully part of the Experimentis series by Aventino Music, which was created to welcome artistic experiences linked to improvised music without genre limits.“, underlines Claudio Scozzafava, chief of Aventino Music.
Paolo Tofani has developed, for many years now, a personal approach to the music he composes, which he himself summarizes as follows: “Spontaneous music, for me, is the only way to avoid the banality of making music following conventional structures. I believe that all artists, at different levels, should use this gift of providence in the spirit of being useful, but of course the choice belongs to each of us.”
From the words emerges an urgency that comes from his personal journey of spiritual research. In fact, Paolo, after separating from Area, dedicated himself to spiritual research, and during this long journey he found in instruments closer to the Indian tradition or often designed by himself: a new means of expression of the music of the soul, but above all he found a new way of facing music and improvisation (also thanks to the meeting with Derek Bailey) where, as he himself says, “you start with nothing and end with everything.”
