One of the perpetrators of the attack on March 4, 2021 against the Honorary Consulate of Greece located at Corso Vittorio Emanuele 86 in Naples has been identified and arrested.
This is a young man belonging to the Neapolitan anarchist-insurrectionist galaxy who was arrested this morning by the police with the authorization of the acting Public Prosecutor at the Court of Naples.
The young man is accused, together with an accomplice, who is being identified, of attack for terrorist or subversive purposes. The two attackers used an improvised and illegally manufactured device consisting of an explosive pyrotechnic device called “RAMBO”, assembled, using gummed paper, to a spray can of Dove deodorant, which, at the time of the explosion, had caused both disruptive and incendiary consequences.
The attack was intended to destabilize Greek institutions and force them to change or abstain from decisions regarding the prison treatment of individuals convicted of terrorism-related crimes.
The young man, it was discovered during the investigations that led to his arrest, had taken self-training courses via the Internet and social media, receiving instructions on the preparation or use of explosive materials, firearms or other weapons, harmful or dangerous chemical or bacteriological substances, as well as any other technique or method for carrying out acts of violence or the sabotage of essential public services.
Operations carried out for the purposes of terrorism and subversion of the democratic order and in particular with the aim of destabilizing the institutions of Greece and forcing them to modify or abstain with reference to decisions pertaining to the prison treatment of individuals convicted of crimes relating to terrorism, therefore he carried out behaviors unequivocally aimed at committing the conduct referred to in Article 270sexies, in particular in conjunction with persons to be identified, he illegally possessed and carried in a public place an explosive device called Rambo, assembled, using gummed paper, to a spray can of Dove deodorant.
The attack, although never claimed, appeared immediately attributable to the anarcho insurrectionist galaxy both for the methods of carrying it out and the type of device used, and for the existence, in that period, of an anarchist campaign of international solidarity towards Dimitris Koufondinas, former member of the Greek terrorist association “17 November”, detained in Greek prisons on hunger strike.
The identification of the alleged perpetrator who acted, together with another not fully identified accomplice, disguised in black, arriving near the Consulate always wearing a mask to protect his nose and mouth - was achieved through a detailed traditional investigation , collecting serious indications of guilt after an in-depth viewing of cameras, investigations carried out at the Electronic Investigations Section of the IV Division of the Scientific Police Service, as well as analysis of the telephone traffic in use by the anarchist. The investigations carried out also made it possible to hypothesize the exact place, close to the Consulate, where the suspect and his accomplice wore totally black covering clothing in order not to be identified by the police.
Much of the clothing worn by the suspect was found following a house search carried out on him on 26 May 2022, during which the smartphone he was using was seized, which then made it possible to find inside of the seized device numerous computer material of interest regarding weapons, explosives and their packaging, urban guerrilla techniques and sabotage, as well as numerous anarchist material, a significant result in further outlining the extreme dangerousness of the suspect and his activity of self training.
