The Ministry of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, sent a directive to the prefects of Rome, Naples and Milan to intensify control activities in the areas adjacent to the railway stations, ensuring a strengthened and visible presence of the police forces and offering a more effective response to the need for protection in areas where the perception of insecurity is widespread.
In particular, based on the indications provided by the head of the Ministry of the Interior, the prefects, integrating the coordinated control plans of the territory by the police forces, will have to activate specific surveillance devices in these areas with the aim of making them more permanently safe and thus returning them to full usability by the communities of reference.
With the availability of the mayors involved, further involvement of the local police must be envisaged and at the same time the commitment of the Guardia di Finanza must be enhanced in terms of economic-financial assessment action against asset managers.
The directive was adopted on the basis of the results already achieved thanks to the “high impact” inter-force operations carried out since 10 January in the three main railway stations of the cities of Rome, Milan and Naples and then extended to other areas of the city, affected by the phenomenon of the so-called malamovida and drug dealing.
These are extraordinary territorial control services that have seen the use of personnel from the State Police, the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza, with the collaboration of the local Police and the assistance of other bodies (ASL, Labour Inspectorates, Municipal Companies), and have allowed for increased prevention and repression of the various forms of illegality.
For the implementation of this intervention module, which will be repeated systematically in the coming weeks, from January 10 to March 17, 10.449 units of the Police Forces were employed, in addition to 906 members of the municipal police of Rome, Milan and Naples and 687 employees of other entities (public companies, labor inspectorate, ASL). 93.459 people were checked, of which 26.763 foreigners, with 248 arrests and 1243 people reported.
The checks also involved 11.197 vehicles and 2.534 public establishments, where 419 irregular workers were identified. 266 foreigners were expelled, 55 of whom were accompanied to repatriation detention centers. As a result of the police activity, 161 personal prevention measures were also ordered, 43 mandatory expulsion orders and 118 prohibitions on access to urban areas. 3.118 administrative violations were also ascertained, in addition to 543 of a fiscal nature. Furthermore, money, counterfeit or unsafe goods (including food products, clothing, toys and others), drugs, vehicles and weapons were seized.
