In Torre Mozza (Lecce) the clean-up operations continue of the area hit yesterday by a fire that affected about 200 hectares of woodland, Mediterranean scrub and uncultivated land. The operational sections from the commands of Matera, Potenza, Caserta, Avellino and other civil protection teams are operating on site.
The flames that threatened some accommodation facilities and homes were put out by the fire brigade teams of Gallipoli (Lecce) and Ugento (Lecce), by volunteers from civil protection associations, by Arif and by the police forces, all coordinated by the Fire Brigade DOS (Director of Fire Extinguishing Operations) who also directed the activity of two Canadairs.
70 launches were made before managing to stop the two fronts of the fire, which was defined as “under control” at 20 pm. During the operational phase, one accommodation facility was evacuated while the alert status and customer regrouping had been communicated for two others.
