A rock climber working on the mountains of Casamicciola for post-landslide safety interventions fell into a ravine, in the area of the Negroponte riverbed, while he was busy clearing rocks and cutting vegetation, on behalf of Sma Campania.
The man, 32 years old and originally from Senegal, fell from a height of three meters losing consciousness and was initially rescued by the rest of his work team and later by some local residents.
The climber had to wait several minutes for the arrival of the 118 paramedics and the firefighters from the Ischia barracks because he had fallen in an inaccessible area: to save him, a Fire Brigade helicopter took off from Pontecagnano and took him to the Casamicciola heliport and from there he was taken to the Rizzoli hospital where he regained consciousness and where he is currently undergoing the necessary tests.
According to the health workers at the island hospital, the man felt unwell before falling, but the Carabinieri of the Ischia company are investigating the episode.
