Until April, twenty shows on the bill with three major itineraries and 11 absolute debuts.
From civil theatre with Guernica Bombing to revisited classics such as Ionesco’s The Chairs.
The 2023/2024 season of the TRAM Theatre in via Port'Alba will start in October: in the 21 weeks of programming, from 20 October 2023 to 30 April 2024, there will be 20 shows on stage, including 9 absolute debuts, 18 city premieres and 3 original productions.
The rich program has been divided into three intertwined paths: the ordinary programming, the Contemporary Classic focus and the Things as They Are focus.
The regular program will offer 11 shows chosen as always among the most interesting realities of the independent Neapolitan and national theater scene: it starts on October 20 with Guernica Bombing, the new production of the Teatro dell'Osso, a show written and directed by Mirko Di Martino that will see the return to the stage of Orazio Cerino in a monologue of civil theater, as historical as it is current. A space all to itself will have the show winner of the Director with the A 2023 award: Umana, by Francesca Esposito, which will be staged at the TRAM on November 4 and 5, 2023.
In December it will be the turn of Open Mic Farm, a version of Animal Farm by George Orwell rewritten by Gianluca Ariemma, a show that won the Fantasio Directing Festival. Jim Morrison's poems will become the text of Pensiero elettrico, the new show by Francesco Lonano who will return to the TRAM after the success of Salomè last season. Immediately after, again in December, the Tram will host the new text by Antonio Mocciola, Dispacci da Mosca, a story of current events through the author's usual intimate and unusual gaze.
The January program will open with La pietra oscura by a Spanish author, Alberto Conejero, presented by the Salerno company directed by Pasquale De Cristofaro. Another debut will be Invisibili by Michele Iazzetta and Gennaro Monforte, inspired by Mrozek's texts. In February, the hall in via Port'Alba will host a show created as part of the 2022 edition of the Director with A award: Monica. Odellalibertà by Francesca Fedeli, a fun and emotional story by the great Monica Vitti.
Also making a welcome return will be Antimo Casertano, author and performer of the show I cinque figli, based on a short story by Giambattista Basile. Andromac(hi)a, the new show by Valeria Impagliazzo inspired by the classical myth, will debut in March. Then it will be the turn of Per lei. On the day of her birthday by the Roman Francesco Bianchi, a new and very interesting voice in contemporary theater. Finally, the ordinary program will close with the last debut of the season: Triolagnìa by Nello Provenzano, this time in the unusual role of author and director.
The Contemporary Classic focus will propose 4 shows that offer a revisited version of the great texts of the past. In November, Le donne sono mostri will be performed, directed by Angela Rosa D'Auria, a beautiful text written by Marina Salvetti that tells the “monstrous” female myths with an eye on the present. During the holiday season, 'A puteca de'e leggende napulitane by Diego Sommaripa will return to the stage in a renewed version, with other stories and another formidable cast. In January, Titti Nuzzolese and Roberta Misticone will tell the great Homeric poem in their own way in Signora Odissea; and in April, Antonio Iavazzo will stage Ionesco's masterpiece Le sedie.
The focus Le cose come stanno will propose 4 monologues that tell the present with a lucid and ironic look. The opening in November will be entrusted to Burla by and with Viola di Caprio, who will give voice to the anxieties and expectations of a stripper. The second show will be in February: L'ammore che d'è. Storie di un femminiello napoletano by Silvio De Luca, interpreted by Lila Esposito, an ironic story, sometimes cynical and sometimes tender. The raw reality of neo-fascism will make its entrance at the TRAM with Settantuno by Riccardo Pisani with Nello Provenzano, a look at contemporary racism built starting from the violent posts spread on social media. To conclude the journey, Roberta Frascati will propose RECordare, an intimate show conducted on the thread of memory with the direction of Anna Chiara Senatore.
