The death toll from the floods that have hit Tuscany since yesterday is currently five dead and one missing in Campi Bisenzio. It hasn't rained this hard in at least 50 years in Tuscany, where the bad weather caused by the passage of storm Ciaran has claimed at least 5 victims and 190 mm of rain has fallen in three hours. And the adverse weather conditions will continue over the weekend, hitting the north of the region again, with possible thunderstorms.
The new weekend disturbance will still affect the entire Center-North, while the South will be less affected. These are the forecasts of Valerio Capecchi, meteorologist of the Lamma-Cnr Consortium of the Tuscany Region and the National Research Council. "Even today - he explains - we will have afternoon instability". In particular, new storms are expected in the North and Northwest of the Region, therefore also in the Campi Bisenzio area hit by the flood last night.
After a break tomorrow morning, a new disturbance will be active in the second part of the day that will produce its effects throughout the weekend”. Among the regions most affected by the bad weather, in addition to Tuscany, there are Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto and Friuli in Northern Italy. On the Tyrrhenian coasts, storm surges are expected tomorrow afternoon following strong south-westerly winds.
At the moment, Capecchi adds, the center of Ciaran is positioned between the British Isles and the Scandinavian Peninsula, and is moving further east. From Monday, Storm Ciaran will be exhausted, but a mild and humid flow from the south will remain that could bring further rain, albeit less intense.
