The Basic Taxi Drivers Association of Napoli once again takes a stand against the ban imposed by the Municipality on free visits to the public at Maradona stadium. All this in an open letter addressed to Councilor Luigi Carbone with a request for a motion in the city council on the issue.
“We are here again to highlight the discomfort that our tourists are experiencing, we have highlighted the problem of the prohibited access to the Maradona stadium, to the public, to those who today choose Naples as a tourist destination, we thank the major events office of the Municipality of Naples, for the written feedback received, although the Sports and Heritage departments, delegated all the responsibility to the mayor of Napoli", write the taxi drivers through spokesman Guido Savastano.
“Today, we were informed through the Mayor's office, with the collaboration of the major events office, that a (Municipal Council resolution no. 280 of 23 September 1997) is still in force under art.
Chapter II: 'the use of sports facilities (including the Maradona Stadium) which access is not permitted to the public, but only to those who are authorised and those who carry out athletics activities and to municipal operators'.
“We appeal to the most esteemed, Maresca and Carbone, to bring a motion to the City Council, to discuss the modification of the aforementioned resolution cited, now “obsolete” for the times we live in, for the flow of tourism that our capital experiences, it is now clear that the tourists who land in Naples, the most sought-after destinations are Largo Maradona in the Spanish Quarters and the Maradona Stadium, and it is humiliating for us mobility operators to decline the destination requested by the user. We invite the Councilors to work and commit in the council to modify it, the damage to the image of the city of Naples is enormous”, they conclude.
