After a 20-day absence, rain returns to all of Italy. From today, Fat Thursday, until Fat Tuesday of Carnival, a wave of bad weather will hit the country thanks to the cyclone called “Pulcinella”.
The cyclone will bring with it “strong disturbed conditions with more than 100 mm of rain in the North, strong winds across the entire peninsula and heavy snowfall in the Alps,” explains Andrea Garbinato of the website IlMeteo.it. “The most intense precipitation will be concentrated in the North, on the Tyrrhenian side and on the Major Islands.”
The sea will also be affected by bad weather, with waves that will become "very rough or agitated". The worsening is expected starting from the next few hours, with the peak between Friday afternoon and Sunday.
The first weak precipitations will affect Campania and Liguria in the next few hours, with more intense phenomena on the northern Apennines. From the evening, the bad weather will move to the North-West, bringing a night of rain.
Tomorrow, the cyclone, although not yet close to Italy, will activate very humid southern winds. Rain is expected in the morning in the North-West and in Tuscany, extending to the North-East and Sardinia during the day. The winds will blow up to a Scirocco gale.
The peak of the bad weather is expected for the weekend, when the cyclone will deepen up to 986 hPa over the Ligurian Sea and then slowly move towards the Central Adriatic. This low pressure will cause even stronger winds, especially over Sicily and Sardinia, with rough conditions across the entire peninsula.
So let's get ready for a wet and windy Carnival!
