Great success for the Hidirlez Festival, held from May 10th to 12th in the Mangalia Hippodrome area in Romania. Organized by the Tatar Democratic Union, with the funding of the Romanian Ministry of Culture, the Hidirlez project had a great popular participation that enthusiastically followed all the events.
The traditional sports games included in the intangible heritage of UNESCO (from archery to horse racing), the stands with traditional foods of the Tatar ethnic community, the music with the performance of local and international artists, the creative craft workshops literally taken by storm.
There was no shortage of cultural moments, such as the presentation of the book “Tartar Songs from Crimea”, the international evening “The World of Tartar”, the Day of the Tatar Language and Surghiunul. The artists Genghiz Cutaclai, Mesut Baubec, Elfin Regep and Naim Ersin, the historical reenactment group Nokors were highly appreciated. Numerous guests came from Turkey, Crimea, Ukraine and Bulgaria.
With this Festival, UDT and its President Naim Belgin have achieved the goals they set out to achieve, especially with regard to transmitting the cultural and sporting values of the Tatar tradition to children and young people, in the awareness of the value of inter-ethnic and intercultural enrichment for the construction of mutual respect and healthy coexistence between peoples.
The Mangalia Hippodrome was literally transformed into a great place of involvement and celebration. Noteworthy is the participation of the Secondary School of Uruguay with the contribution of its students.
