Article Key Points
Grazia De Gennaro's Debut in Adult Fiction
After conquering the younger audience with illustrated stories and novels, Pensiero Creativo enters the world of adult fiction with the first novel by Grazia De Gennaro, “Ombre di Luce – Le Figlie di Napoli”. The release, scheduled for July 24, will be distributed both in physical bookstores and digital stores.
The Protagonist: Luce
Luce is a photographer, art enthusiast, student and mother. Through her vicissitudes, the reader is introduced to her fragilities, her fears and the absences in her life. However, there are female figures to support her who, as the title suggests, bring light into her existence. Among them, her daughter, her neighbor and her friends Ginevra and Edith, who not only help her face difficulties but also teach her to accept the shadows, necessary for rebirth.
An Atmosphere of Mystery: Contemporary Naples
The novel is set in a contemporary Naples, steeped in mystery and esotericism. Popular traditions, beliefs, mysticism and folklore permeate the narrative, creating a continuous dialogue between life and death, between the world of the living and the kingdom of the dead. Naples itself, with its iconic places such as the Cimitero delle Fontanelle, Piazza del Gesù, the Academy of Fine Arts and the Spanish Quarters, becomes an occult but ever-present character.
A Journey of Self-Discovery
Every event and situation in the novel guides Luce on an inevitable path of self-discovery. This inner journey leads her to value herself, to forgive herself and to trust her own abilities. “Shadows of Light” is a celebration of life, a message of hope that invites us not to be afraid of the “shadows” but to use them as a springboard to see the light.
Synopsis
De Gennaro's novel is a work that explores the dichotomies between light and shadow, clarity and darkness, and truth and fear. This mystical journey is steeped in faith, belief, religion, and fatalism, and shows us how life, with all its imperfections, can be perfect.
