“A song can change your life, and 'Rossetto e Caffè' did that. I've written many songs that have left their mark on me, but this one came at a special time, with music going in a completely different direction. The joy is double, for me and my staff. We are a team and the success is for everyone”.
This is how Sal Da Vinci comments on the success of his single 'Rossetto e Caffè', a gold record and still at the top of the charts months after its release. The song triumphed despite poor radio airplay. "I didn't complain," Da Vinci specifies.
“It was a question that was asked to me: why is such a strong song not played on the radio? Maybe it doesn't fit with their editorial line, but I don't make a drama out of it. It's the public that decides the success of a song”.
And the public has decreed the triumph of 'Rossetto e Caffè', with millions of streams and views, and two sold out dates at the Arena Flegrea in Naples, the first one yesterday evening and the next one tomorrow. "I honestly didn't expect so much public attendance in such a short time, with two dates immediately sold out", confesses Da Vinci, excited about the performance in his city.
“The catchphrases last a month, maximum forty days. 'Rossetto e Caffè' came out on June 14 and is still doing important numbers, we are over three months old. It is special”. The success of the song, which has totaled 13 million streams on Spotify and 23 million views on YouTube, has transcended generations, even reaching Gen Z. “It is an immense joy”, says Da Vinci who adds: “My social manager says that there are platinum numbers.
It's a dream come true, I had already experienced it in the days of physical records. Today the real numbers are made on digital platforms. Seeing children sing my song is like being reborn".
Da Vinci credits his longtime audience and new fans: “I should give a gold record to each of them. They are the ones who generated all this. And Gen Z surprised me, their curiosity makes me happy. They are discovering my songs, I see on Spotify Artist that songs that previously had few streams now have many more. There is curiosity. Songs are magic that you hope will never end”.
'Lipstick and Coffee' is just the beginning of a larger project, which includes a new show at the Teatro Agostino in Naples starting on December 13, on stage for a month.
And there's also a new collaboration in sight: "I'm working on a new song and I've involved an artist I admire a lot, her name is Ste". Born in 1996, Ste is among the newcomers on the Neapolitan music scene: "She's an artist with a story that has deeply affected me, in some ways I see myself in it.
He inspired me to write this piece. Years ago I wrote 'Vera' with Franco Del Prete, a song that talked about those who pursue their dreams despite the difficulties. Ste's story reminded me of this theme. He is very talented and I really like the idea of collaborating with young people”.
Ste, therefore, will be present in Da Vinci's next album, which does not exclude other collaborations, as long as they are born "spontaneously, with love and with a logic. No 'plasticized' music made only for numbers".
And no 'dissing' on the horizon: "What I have to say I say in my songs. Private things remain private." Finally, my 'lipstick and coffee' to give me energy? "My family, my children, my grandchildren. This new energy makes me happy, and from happiness beautiful things are born. I firmly believe in it."
