An electric ambulance, essential for reaching the most difficult areas of the island, has been out of service for a month due to a breakdown.
The National Consumers Union has raised the alarm, reporting inconvenience and delays in rescue operations. The lack of the vehicle risks endangering the health of residents and tourists.
The ASL Napoli 1 is called to intervene urgently to restore the service and guarantee health safety on the island.
“The mini ambulance used in Capri from the 118 service for about a month has been stopped due to a fault”. This was reported by the Capri Island delegation of the National Consumers Union in a letter sent to the President of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca, to the General Director of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro Ciro Verdoliva, to the Director of the UOC 118 of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro Giuseppe Galano and to the Mayor of Capri Paolo Falco.
“The electric vehicle, essential for medical assistance in the pedestrian streets and in the many peripheral areas of the island where it is not possible to reach with traditional means – writes the delegate for the island of Capri of the Unc Teodorico Boniello – is out of use and is currently in the workshop in Naples.
The lack of the 'ambulance' is consequently causing considerable inconvenience and enormous difficulties for both healthcare personnel and users, given that in the event of an emergency it is not possible to easily transfer a patient to the emergency room.
The Municipality of Capri, in an attempt to overcome the problem, has temporarily made available one of the social services' electric vehicles, an initiative that is certainly praiseworthy and important but very limited as this vehicle does not allow the transport of a sick person on a stretcher". Boniello points out that "a third of Capri's territory is pedestrian and for this reason adequate means are needed as an alternative to traditional ambulances.
The general director of ASL Napoli 1 and the director of UOC 118 are therefore asked to provide for the immediate restoration of the ambulance trolley, to evaluate the purchase of a new vehicle specifically designed for the conformation of the Capri territory and to entrust the maintenance and any repair work to a company present on the island in order to shorten the times”.
