Old grudges that have never been completely overcome, a dismissal that occurred years ago and, probably, a recent disagreement that lit the fuse: these are the elements that seem to be at the basis of the double homicide that occurred at dawn at the fish market in Salerno, leaving the city shocked and incredulous.

The people involved – victims and killer – were quite well known. Around 4 in the morning, Francesco Iacovazzo, 72 years old, killed two of his former colleagues, Carmine DeLuca, 48 years old, from Salerno, and Rosary Montone, 58 years old, from Portici, then spontaneously handed himself over to the Carabinieri at the Mercatello station, also taking with him the murder weapon, a legally held pistol.
The episode occurred inside the market, amid panic and the escape of the customers present.
After buying some fish for his fish shop, the murderer, for reasons still unclear, went back and shot the two men: one was hit by two bullets, the other by one, while a fourth shot lodged in the ground.
One of the two died instantly, while the other died in hospital, where he had been transported in critical condition. Investigators and magistrates quickly ruled out the possibility of organized crime being involved, focusing instead on old grudges as a possible motive.
The Attorney General of Salerno, Giuseppe Borrelli, declared: “The information provided immediately by the alleged perpetrator of the crime, at the time of his surrender to the police, traces the causes of the murder back to pre-existing conflicts, probably intensified by something that happened in the morning.
There are currently no elements that link the crime to organised crime phenomena. stopped He had been fired years ago and believed the two victims were responsible for his departure.”
Some colleagues of Montone and De Luca, present near the crime scene, confirmed the presence of old tensions between the murderer and the victims, recalling previous arguments. In the meantime, messages of condolence for the victims are multiplying on social media and elsewhere.
Montone leaves behind two sons, while De Luca leaves behind two daughters. “They were two exceptional people, always available and correct”, colleagues say. Carmine De Luca was also a big fan of Salernitana.

“He was a true fan of the team”, remember those who knew him, “but above all a loving father and a tireless worker, who had never had arguments with anyone”.
Even the mayor of Salerno, Vincenzo Napoli, accompanied by the Security Councillor, Claudius Tringali, visited the fish market in the morning. “It is a shocking episode of violence“, commented the mayor Napoli. “We are deeply shocked, the toll is tragic”, added Tringali. Francesco Iacovazzo, after being questioned by the public prosecutor, was placed under arrest and transferred to the Fuorni prison. The investigations, conducted jointly by the Carabinieri and the police, are coordinated by the Salerno Prosecutor's Office.
