A wiretap placed by investigators among members of the Mazzarella clan revealed the resentment that led to an escalation of violence. The wiretap, in which one can be heard saying, "So, these people don't give a damn about us?", shed light on a key incident: the shooting of Raffaele Frenna of the Spanish Quarter, which occurred on November 5, 2023, in Piazza Mercato.
Since then, thanks to investigations conducted by the Naples Police Headquarters' Flying Squad, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, it has been possible to identify the alleged perpetrator of the attempted murder: Emmanuele Marigliano, 26, leader of a group of the Case Nuove clan, independent from the Continis and in conflict with the loyalists of the fugitive Nicola Rullo. The episode is reported in the newspaper Il Roma, currently on newsstands.
Emanuele Marigliano, nicknamed “'o nano,” has been in prison since yesterday morning: a sort of liberation for the neighborhood forced to suffer the harassment of his criminal group over the last year. The group had become independent from the Contini family, with whom his family had historically been associated, and had also come into conflict with the group of boss Nicola Rullo 'o nfamone, who is still wanted.
Antonio Argentino and Luigi Avella missing
The investigations led the police to identify the group's operational base in via Capasso, where a hidden camera filmed various movements of weapons. Among those arrested are, in addition to Emmanuele Marigliano, his brother Giuseppe (38 years old), Antonio Sorrentino (28), Luigi Avella (27), Angelo Esposito (25), Renato Siotto (23), Ovalle Jessni Ortega (25), Luigi Mascolino (71) and Antonio Argentino (31). Two of them, Avella and Argentino, are currently untraceable.
The operation led to the arrest of nine people accused, to varying degrees, of attempted murder, possession of firearms, participation in intimidating “stes” and drug dealing. Among the contested episodes, there was also the attack on two Argentine tourists at the restaurant “Pasta is falling".
The spark: a fight in a nightclub
It all started with a brawl in a disco in Posillipo, involving about ten people: five from the Spanish Quarters and five from the Case Nuove. During the fight, a glass bottle injured Vincenzo Di Caprio, a close friend of Marigliano. Although Raffaele Frenna was not directly involved, revenge fell upon him a few hours later, turning him into the target of a gunshot ambush.
Tensions between the two groups had already been evident for some time. In addition to the ambush in Frenna, other episodes have been reconstructed: two intimidating "stese" in the Spanish Quarters and a raid that took place on May 16, 2022 at the restaurant Pasta is falling. In this latest episode, some tables occupied by tourists were hit by a scooter driven by Marigliano, together with his accomplice Gennaro Vitone.

It's incredible how the situation in Naples is becoming more and more complicated. The gangs and the violence, I don't know if we'll ever find a solution. I hope the authorities do something before something worse happens.
