Naples – An episode of gratuitous and brutal violence shook Piazza Carlo III yesterday, in the heart of Napoli.
A group of minors, armed with a club of iron, attacked a homeless, hitting him repeatedly under the astonished eyes of passers-by.The scene, filmed by some witnesses, shows the young people running away from the scene of the crime laughing, as if it were a game. The video of the attack was sent to the deputy of Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra (AVS), Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who immediately reported the incident.
“It is intolerable that children are the perpetrators of such violence. Those responsible must be identified and brought to justice,” Borrelli said, stressing the need to “intensify efforts to combat youth violence, a phenomenon that appears to be worryingly growing.”
The episode has rekindled the debate on safety and social degradation in some areas of the city. Piazza Carlo III, already known for episodes of petty crime, has returned to the center of attention for an event that has left the local community shocked and indignant. The homeless man, fortunately, was rescued and taken to the hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. His condition, at the moment, does not appear to be serious.
Law enforcement is already working to identify the young attackers, whose images have been shared on social networks. In the meantime, the episode has raised urgent questions about the role of institutions and families in educating new generations, increasingly the protagonists of acts of inexplicable and gratuitous violence.
"They must be identified and stopped, they are dangerous despite their very young age. This latest episode shows that youth violence is spreading without restraints. We must intensify even more efforts to stop the phenomena of deviance and youth violence, which are constantly increasing. More and more minors are walking around armed and are ready to harm others, even for trivial reasons.
A joint and sustained effort is needed if we really want to make an impact on a problem that is undermining the future of future generations”. This is what was declared by Francesco Emilio Borrelli, deputy of Alleanza Verdi – Sinistra, who collected the citizens’ complaint.

I think youth violence is a serious problem and needs to be addressed. Kids don't understand the consequences of their actions and this is worrying. Society needs to do more to educate them and prevent such incidents.
