NAPLES – The State Police arrested in recent days a 50-year-old Sri Lankan citizen, wanted internationally for the crime of rape: the arrest, validated by the competent Judicial Authority, occurred following a provision issued by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, which had sentenced him to the maximum penalty provided for the crime committed against a fellow countrywoman who was a minor.
The man, regularly present on Italian territory, had managed to escape the justice of his country of origin and had settled in Italy, obtaining a residence permit for dependent work. However, thanks to a series of checks carried out by the personnel of the Immigration Office, the Naples Flying Squad managed to track him down in a house in the San Carlo all'Arena neighborhood.
After his arrest, the fifty-year-old was taken to the prison in Poggioreale, pending the procedures for his possible extradition. The operation confirms the commitment of the police forces in combating the presence of fugitives on the national territory and ensuring the execution of sentences issued at international level.
