Acerra, the father's contradictions: the investigation must clarify why the pitbull attacked and killed little Giulia

Acerra – The judicial investigation must shed light on what happened and, above all, clarify why the pitbull attacked and killed little Giulia, who was sleeping in the double bed with her mother at work.

According to an initial version provided by the father, a 25-year-old, the little girl was attacked by a stray dog. This statement was made to the health workers at the Villa dei Fiori clinic, where the newborn was taken, already lifeless. The man lives two hundred meters away from the clinic where he arrived on foot.

The little girl's father said he fell asleep around 22:30 p.m., after placing Giulia on the bed while waiting for his 23-year-old wife, who works in a pizzeria, to return.

When he woke up, he found the little girl in a pool of blood and, despite attempts to help, doctors could do nothing to save her. "That dog was dangerous," said neighbors, who remember how the pit bull had already attacked another dog in the past.

Someone also said that they were often afraid of that dog that was walking around without a muzzle. And that the owner had repeatedly said that it was not dangerous. And instead it was not.

The investigations of the Nola Prosecutor's Office

The police investigation is currently ongoing, and the Nola Prosecutor's Office has opened a file and ordered an autopsy. The controversy surrounding pit bulls is intensifying, as this is not the first fatal attack. Last year, another 13-month-old child was killed in Campolongo (Salerno) by two pit bulls; in Palazzolo Vercellese (Vercelli), a five-month-old baby died after being attacked by the family pit bull.

Requests for intervention by politicians

Politicians also intervened on the issue. Raffaella Paita, national coordinator of Italia Viva, declared: “It is time to ban the trade of these animals, structurally unsuitable for coexistence with humans and children”, expressing the intention to fight in Parliament for this objective.

Former minister Carlo Giovanardi, of Popolo e Libertà, added that about 10 people a year, mostly children, lose their lives in Italy due to dog attacks. Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a deputy of the Alleanza Verdi di Sinistra, proposed the establishment of a license for owners of dogs considered dangerous, with the obligation of periodic behavioral checks.
