Naples – Yet another episode of violence against public transport operators has reignited the debate on the safety of workers in the sector.
A driver ofEAV in service on the Nola-Moschiano line, was the target of serious threats from a passenger, already known for previous aggressive behavior.
The man, caught on video released by the Green and Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, addressed intimidating phrases to the driver: “I'll pick you up at home” e “I'll break your head”, showing a worrying sense of impunity. To make matters worse, the defiance of law enforcement: “Call the police, what do I care?”.
Borrelli: “Enough aggression, we need clear punishments”
The MP has launched an appeal for a tougher response against those who attack public employees: “It is intolerable that drivers and operators are exposed to daily threats from those who believe they can act without consequences. We must intervene with severe and certain sanctions, to guarantee the safety of those who work for the community.”
The episode reopens the issue of the protection of public transport workers, who are increasingly victims of verbal and physical violence. The request is clear: more stringent legislative measures are needed and a change of pace in the repression of these crimes. In the meantime, investigations are underway to identify and prosecute the aggressor.
