The Council of Ministers, meeting on Thursday 27 March 2025 at Palazzo Chigi under the presidency of Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, resolved to dissolve the municipal councils of San Luca (RC), Poggiomarino (NA) and Tremestieri Etneo (CT).
Article Key Points
The decision, taken on the proposal of the Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, is motivated by the confirmed influences of organised crime, which would have compromised the smooth running of the administrative activity.
The three municipalities will be entrusted to extraordinary commissions for a period of eighteen months, with the aim of restoring legality and transparency in local management.
The Poggiomarino Case: The Political Reaction
Among the cities involved, poggiomarino is back in the spotlight for Camorra infiltration. The measure was addressed Joseph Annunziata, metropolitan secretary of the PD Naples, who defined the dissolution “an event of exceptional gravity”.
“The Camorra has managed to infiltrate the town hall, undermining citizens' trust and tarnishing the prestige of local institutions”, declared Annunziata, underlining that the decision came from the centre-right government itself, confirming the gravity of the situation.
The former administration Phalanga, added Annunziata, would have dragged Poggiomarino into a “institutional abyss”, making the administration inevitable. “Once again the city is in the national spotlight for less than flattering reasons”, he has declared.
Now, according to the secretary of the PD, it is necessary turn the page and start a new phase based on transparency, legality and good politics.
