Two Penitentiary Police officers were injured in the prison of Ariano Irpino following an attack by two inmates. The news was reported by Stefano Sorice, secretary of the Uilpa Penitentiary Police.
According to the union representative, one of the officers was punched in the face by an inmate through the bars of his cell, while the other was forcefully pushed against a grate. Both officers had to seek treatment at the local hospital's emergency room.
The two inmates involved in the episode had been transferred to the Irpinia institution a few days ago for reasons related to order and security.
The Ariano Irpino prison had already hit the headlines a few weeks ago, when a riot broke out inside the facility, leading to the destruction of an entire detention section and the subsequent transfer of numerous inmates.
