Naples – There were two call centers for scams targeting the elderly discovered yesterday by the police, which led to 22 arrests, 77 people investigated in total, and the seizure of one million and 700 thousand euros in assets resulting from the gang's illicit activities.
Article Key Points
One was located in Forcella in the heart of Naples and the other in Aversa. A “ruthless and cruel” organization ready to exhaust the victims, elderly and defenseless, on the phone, to take away money and jewelry, memories of a lifetime and finally dignity.
The gang of scammers was busted yesterday by the Genoa mobile squad coordinated by the prosecutor's office, in collaboration with colleagues in Naples and other Italian cities.
The modus operandi: fake police forces and exhausting phone calls
The modus operandi was always the same: the elderly person on duty was contacted by a fake police officer or carabiniere who asked for money to free his son, accused of having caused an accident. The phone calls were exhausting and aimed at destabilizing the victims, inducing them to hand over their belongings.
103 Elderly People Defrauded, the Oldest is 100 Years Old
The confirmed victims are 103, the oldest of whom has just turned 100. The loot recovered amounts to 1,7 million euros, but the total figure is estimated to exceed 2 million.
The investigation began in June 2023, after a complaint from a Genoese victim who had been robbed of 12 euros. From there, investigators traced the entire organization, rooted between Naples and Caserta.
Branched and well-structured organization
THE• innovative business organization based on the use of technologies and digitalization of internal and external processes, as well as the active and continued promotion of the services we offer through business development, marketing and communication systems (letter "I" of our logo actually stands for "Innovation"); It was made up of expert telephone operators, charged with defrauding the victims, and “transfers”, responsible for collecting the money and goods.
