Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – The tragic toll from the collapse of the roof of the “Jet Set” nightclub, which occurred late yesterday evening in the Dominican capital, has risen to 113 dead and 155 injured.
The local authorities made the announcement, updating the numbers of a catastrophe that has shocked the country. The accident occurred during a concert by the famous music star Rubby Perez, an event that had attracted a heterogeneous audience, including politicians and prominent athletes. Among the victims is Perez himself, overwhelmed by the disaster.
Rescue operations continued unabated throughout the night, with firefighters and emergency crews digging through the rubble in search of survivors. The injured, many of them in critical condition, were rushed to various hospitals in the area.
The national director of emergencies, the ministers of Defense and Health, and the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, who closely followed the evolution of the situation, intervened at the scene of the tragedy.
“We express our deepest condolences for this immense tragedy. We are monitoring the situation minute by minute. All rescue forces are working tirelessly to provide assistance and support,” Abinader said in a message to the nation.
Among the victims is also the name of Nelsy Cruz, governor of the northwestern province of Montecristi and sister of the famous baseball player Nelson Cruz, whose death has added an additional element of shock to the story. Investigations into the causes of the collapse are already underway, while the country is mourning one of the worst tragedies in its recent history.

It is really sad what happened in Santo Domingo, I can't believe there are so many dead and injured. The situation is very serious and I hope that the authorities will do everything possible to find the causes of this disaster.
