A museum as a dynamic space
At the heart of the meeting, the role of MUCIV between memory and future
The Museum of Civilizations of Rome, directed by Viliani since 2022, is one of the most important museum centers in Italy, with a heritage of about two million works and documents. The collections, gathered over 150 years, range from prehistory to non-European cultures, including evidence of Italian colonialism, geo-paleontological finds and popular traditions.
Today, MUCIV presents itself as a multidisciplinary, multicultural and multispecies institution, capable of critically reflecting on the present and proposing new perspectives for the future, integrating research, conservation, mediation and training.
