Benevento – All acquitted “because the fact does not exist”: the investigation into the management of the Agricultural Consortium of Benevento ended with a ruling of no case to answer. Benevento. Preliminary hearing judge Maria Di Carlo yesterday ruled to acquit all ten defendants, some of whom were charged with bankruptcy.
Among those acquitted were also two former members of the Supervisory Authority of the Ministry of Agriculture, Gianluca Scarponi and Mara Pepe, defended by the lawyer Mario Antinucci of Rome. The lawyer himself defined the decision of the preliminary hearing judge as "a courageous and protective sentence", underlining how the judge had "correctly applied the new rules introduced by the Cartabia Reform", which focus on efficiency and protection of procedural guarantees.
The investigation, coordinated by the Benevento Prosecutor's Office, had led to requests for precautionary measures and the referral to trial for all the suspects. However, the judge deemed the accusations unfounded, putting an end to a proceeding that, according to the defense, was "a real investigative gamble."
