Luigi De Siervo, CEO of Lega Serie A, has raised the alarm on the condition of Italian stadiums, calling them among the oldest in Europe with an average age of 75 years, and underlining the urgency of appointing an ad hoc commissioner to manage their renewal.
During the Global Lunch dedicated to the 100 best young footballers nominated for the European Golden Boy, De Siervo he stressed how the age of the facilities limits not only the quality of services offered to fans but also the possibilities of increasing revenues and guaranteeing adequate playing fields, essential for television broadcasting.
The CEO then cited the German championship as an example of excellence in terms of aesthetics and functionality, a model that Italy, Spain and England are trying to emulate. “Spain and England are copying our Lissone model”, he specified, admitting however a certain difficulty in communicating these initiatives. De Siervo finally highlighted the financial limitations of the Italian system, hoping for greater creativity to face the challenge of infrastructural modernization in our home football.
