Sorrento – The Preliminary Investigations Judge of Torre Annunziata has validated the arrest of a European citizen, of no fixed abode, considered to be seriously suspected of two aggravated thefts of electric bicycles that occurred in Sorrento in early May.
The measure of pre-trial detention in prison was ordered at the request of the local prosecutor's office, after the Carabinieri of the Sorrento Company, with the support of the Local Police of Sant'Agnello, had stopped the man shortly after the last theft.
The two episodes
The investigation concerns the theft of two e-bikes of high economic value, which occurred respectively on 1st and 6th May 2025 in the area of the EAV Station of Sorrento. The man, already identified as the presumed responsible for the first theft, was again caught while committing a second crime with the same methods.
The operation was triggered by a check on the initiative of the Local Police of Sant'Agnello at the train station. The Carabinieri, having recognized the individual as the perpetrator of the first theft, acquired further evidence through public and private video surveillance footage, which portrayed him while he was carrying out the second theft.
Recovery of the stolen goods and custody
After the arrest, the military returned one of the vehicles to its rightful owner. Electric bicycles, worth approximately 3.000 euros. The suspect, at the end of the validation hearing, was transferred to the Poggioreale prison in Naples, awaiting the next stages of the trial.
The episode confirms the effectiveness of the synergy between law enforcement agencies in fighting crime, even in a tourist area like the Sorrento Peninsula.
