A phone call was enough to spring the trap. The owner of the stolen car had received the classic request: 600 euros to see his car back, the usual formula of the "returning horse". But instead of giving in to blackmail, he made the right choice: he reported everything to the Carabinieri.
So a plainclothes soldier showed up in his place at the scheduled meeting, with the sealed envelope in his hands. At the meeting was Felice Amatore, 40 years old, who as soon as he took the package found himself surrounded by patrols and uniformed officers. Amatore was arrested red-handed on charges of attempted extortion, and is now in prison awaiting trial.
The arrest is just one of the results that emerged from a large-scale control operation carried out by the Carabinieri of the company Giugliano in Campania, engaged in monitoring the territory north of Naples. During the evening, 76 people were identified and 32 vehicles were checked.
Among the reports was also that of a 22-year-old found with a knuckle-duster hidden in his pockets, while two other individuals were reported for violating the provisions related to the "red zones". Numerous violations of the highway code were detected, many of which for driving without a helmet or without insurance.

It seems to me that the Carabinieri operation was very effective and led to important results. But we must ask ourselves if these actions are really enough to stop the crime that is increasing in our country.
