Naples – The unbridled joy for Napoli’s third Scudetto was unfortunately tainted by a series of incidents of crime and disorder, which required numerous interventions by the Carabinieri in various areas of Naples and the province.
The first assessment of the critical situations recorded between the night and the early hours of the morning paints a complex picture, made of euphoria but also of illegality.
The numbers speak for themselves: 10 robberies were committed and 7 assaults were reported. Three people were injured, with two rescue operations for people in difficulty. 4 stolen cars were recovered and a weapon was seized.
The first alarm was raised around 20 pm in Fuorigrotta, even before the kick-off of the Napoli-Cagliari match. Outside the Maradona stadium, near Curva A, some individuals threw glass bottles, one of which hit a vehicle of the 14th Calabria Carabinieri Battalion, causing minor damage to the bodywork but fortunately no injuries. The military acquired the images from the video surveillance cameras to trace those responsible.
In the middle of the night, in Poggioreale, a 47-year-old man with no criminal record from Cercola was the victim of a robbery on Via Sambuco. Two individuals on a scooter threatened him with a gun, took his vehicle away and hit him on the head with the butt of the gun. The man was treated at the Villa Betania hospital and released.
In Casalnuovo, a 25-year-old under house arrest attempted to blend in with the celebrating crowd, but was recognized and stopped by the Carabinieri after a brief struggle, ending up in the holding cells awaiting trial.
Violence has also affected unsuspecting citizens: at 2:30, in Naples, the Carabinieri rescued a 28-year-old from Caserta, attacked for trivial reasons by an unknown man and hit in the face with a knife, suffering an injury to his cheekbone.
An hour later, again at the Pellegrini hospital, a 27-year-old Belgian citizen was rescued, stabbed in the left thigh by two individuals on a scooter in via Poerio, for no apparent reason. He was given a 10-day prognosis. Investigations are underway to identify those responsible.
Finally, at 3:40, in Piazza Nazionale, several vehicles were found abandoned and rendered unusable during the celebrations. Inside one of these cars, the military discovered a .38 caliber blank pistol, further confirmation of the tension that accompanied the celebration.
