For the first time since Sergio Marchionne, an Italian returns to lead Stellantis. Antonio Filosa, 52, a Neapolitan from Castellammare di Stabia, will be the new CEO of the automotive giant starting June 23, by unanimous choice of the board of directors under the direction of John Elkann.
The appointment marks a turning point in the governance of the group, with a return of Italian and American influence after the era of the Portuguese Carlos Tavares.
The profile: from Ostuni to the Polytechnic, a rising career
Graduated in Engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan, Filosa joined Fiat in 1999 at just 26 years old. Passionate about sports and a fan of Napoli, but many of his relatives from Castellammare di Stabia are fans of Inter, he lived most of his career between South and North America, where his wife and two children now live.
Defined by Le Figaro as the “exact opposite” of his predecessor (“smiling, warm and accessible” versus Tavares’ “rigidity”), Filosa has already announced a world tour of the group’s factories and offices. Le Monde emphasizes how his appointment “reverses the balance” in favor of the Italian-American axis.
