The new competition announcement for students has been published Carabinieri 2025, one of the most anticipated public competitions in the armed forces.
This is a selection process based on qualifications and exams for the recruitment of 4.918 students in a four-year contract, with places reserved for VFP1, VFP4, civilians and bilingual candidates from the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.
The competition is open to men and women who meet the required requirements, and is an important opportunity to begin a career in the Carabinieri, with the possibility of accessing complete professional training, stable salaries and career advancement.

How many places are available in the 2025 Carabinieri Student Competition?
4.918 positions are available for competition, divided as follows:
– 3.421 places reserved for fixed-term volunteers (VFP1 and VFP4);
– 1.465 places for Italian civilian citizens;
– 32 places for candidates in possession of the A2 level bilingualism certificate (Autonomous Province of Bolzano).
How many places are foreseen for the forestry and environmental specialization?
There are 197 total places allocated to this specialization, divided as follows:
– 138 places for VFP reserve winners (art. 1, paragraph 1, letter a);
– 59 places for civil winners (art. 1, paragraph 1, letter b).
In the event that the training course is organized in multiple incorporation cycles, the distribution will follow a criterion proportional to the number of winners present in each cycle.
Is the option for forestry specialization binding?
No, the option is not binding, but represents a preference that the Administration will take into consideration when assigning the training courses. The actual assignment will depend both on the availability of places and on the final score in the ranking.
Where is the course held?
The course takes place at the assigned training department and follows the programs established by the General Command of the Carabinieri and by the Regulations for the Carabinieri Student Schools.
When does one officially become a Carabinieri?
After six months from the beginning of the course, the candidates pass the exams and obtain the appointment as Carabiniere. The placement in the role occurs according to the order of the final ranking.
Who can participate in the competition?

Candidates must:
– Be Italian citizens;
– Be between 17 and 24 years old: (up to 26 years old for VFP) learn more about the age limits;
– Enjoy civil and political rights;
– Not having received criminal convictions or expulsions from military or police forces.
What are the requirements to participate as a VFP (reserve a)?
The following can participate in the reserve: a) volunteers on a fixed-term contract (VFP1, VFP4 or VFI) who:
– have been in service for at least 12 months;
– have not exceeded the age of 25 (i.e. maximum 25 years of age);
– are not in two-year renewal, since this category does not fall within reserve a).
– Volunteers on leave who have completed at least 12 months of service and are not older than 25 years are also eligible.
What are the requirements to participate as a civilian (reserve b)?
Non-military Italian citizens may participate in reserve b) if:
– are at least 18 years old, or 17 years old with parental consent;
– are under 24 years of age (you can participate up until your 24th birthday);
have a five-year high school diploma or will obtain it by the 2024/2025 academic year.
– Military personnel on two-year re-enlistment can participate in this reserve for up to 25 years.
Age increases provided for other public competitions do not apply to this competition.
Can I participate if I have a tattoo?
Yes, as long as it is not visible in the summer uniform, and is not offensive or contrary to institutional values.
Do I have to choose just one reserve or can I compete in multiple categories?
No, it is not possible to compete for more than one reserve.
As required by the announcement, each candidate must choose only one reserve (VFP, civilians, bilinguals) when submitting the application. It is essential to carefully select the reserve for which you are actually entitled to compete, because it will not be possible to change it later.
Is it possible to indicate a preference for operational specializations?
When completing the application, candidates may express a preference for training and employment in one of the operational specializations in forestry, environmental and agri-food protection (formerly the State Forestry Corps). This option is optional, but may affect subsequent assignment in the event of eligibility and victory.
Written Selection Test: How is it conducted and what to study?
The written selection test for the 2025 Carabinieri Student Competition includes a multiple-choice questionnaire with questions on:
General culture: Italian, history, geography, mathematics, geometry, science, Italian constitution and citizenship.
Computer Science: Knowledge of commonly used equipment and software.
History and organizational structure of the Carabinieri.
Logic and verbal reasoning: including deductive questions and understanding texts and instructions.
Foreign language: one of your choice between French, English, Spanish and German.
Candidates for reserve c) cannot choose German (as they are already native speakers or bilingual).
The test may also be administered via digital tools. The operating procedures will be announced in a subsequent notice.
How are the tests conducted and what to study?
What do the exam tests consist of?
The competition includes:
– Written selection test (multiple choice questions);
– Physical fitness tests (running, push-ups, high jump);
– Health checks;
– Aptitude tests;
– Evaluation of qualifications (only for VFP and bilingual candidates).
When and where does the written test take place?
The date, time and location of the written test will be communicated exclusively on the Carabinieri website, with the value of legal notification for all candidates. Any information notices may also be published on the “inPA” portal.
Candidates with the highest scores in the respective rankings divided by category will be admitted to the physical test:
– a) (VFP1/VFP4 in service or on leave): up to 2 times the number of available places;
– b) (civilians): up to 12.000 candidates;
c) (bilinguals from Bolzano):
– 220 between VFP in service/leave,
– 100 civilians.
In case of equal score to the last admitted, even the ex aequo will be included. The Administration can however call up to 19.162 total candidates, if deemed appropriate.
