Night of terror aboard the MSC Orchestra cruise ship, where a fire broke out between Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 June, causing panic among passengers. Fortunately, the emergency was contained and managed quickly by the crew, but the organizational and logistical consequences remain severe, with passengers stranded and boardings postponed.
The Codici association immediately intervened to assist those who experienced the accident and those who were supposed to board this morning from the port of Genoa. “We have activated our channels to collect reports from those who were on the ship and those who remained on land”, explained Ivano Giacomelli, national secretary of the association. The Orchestra case is added to a worrying sequence: “In just one month, serious technical problems have occurred on three different MSC ships: first Sinfonia, then Fantasia and now Orchestra. Perhaps a coincidence, but one that the company should seriously reflect on.”
The ship, still stranded off the coast of Corsica until a few hours ago, forced MSC to update the entire cruise program, with probable changes and cancellations. Stefano Gallotta, lawyer of the association, reminds the rights of travelers: “In case of changes or cancellations due to technical faults, passengers have the right to withdraw from the contract and obtain double the amount paid, in addition to a full refund and any damages”.
