The waltz of benches continues to shake up Serie A and this time it is Inter's turn. Simone Inzaghi will leave Milan, it is now certain: the Piacenza coach, coming off a very heavy 5-0 defeat in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, has decided not to confirm his presence at the Club World Cup, leaving the Nerazzurri management disoriented and forced to speed up the process of finding a new coach.
Inzaghi, who before the Munich debacle was tempted by English and Arab sirens, said yes to the richest: Al-Hilal put an offer of 25 million euros per season on the table, an impossible train to ignore. A figure that closed any possible second thoughts and marked the end of a cycle that lasted four years, in which Inter often shone but without finding the European seal.
Inzaghi's departure comes just a few days before his debut at the Club World Cup, with the Nerazzurri expected in Los Angeles on June 11 and making their debut on the field on the 18th against Monterrey. A timing that forces the management to make a quick choice, but not a rushed one.
Inter, who to replace Inzaghi? Fabregas and De Zerbi in pole position
The profiles on the notebook are many, and all intriguing: from Cesc Fabregas, protagonist of a great season at Como and already explored by Roma, to Roberto De Zerbi, now at Marseille. In the background, also hypotheses such as Christian Chivu and Patrick Vieira, in addition to Raffaele Palladino, fresh from separation from Fiorentina.
However, it is not only the big teams that are involved in this technical revolution: even the second-tier teams and the newly promoted teams are at the centre of rumours and negotiations. The 2025-2026 championship could start with a Serie A profoundly renewed, not only on the pitch but above all on the bench. And Inter, this time, is at the centre of the cyclone.
