Naples – More violence in Piazza Garibaldi, in the heart of the city. A minor was robbed and attacked on Saturday evening, around 19:30 p.m., while waiting for the ANM 1187 bus at the bus stop.
According to the complaint filed following the incident, the boy was approached by two individuals on a scooter: one of the two, with his face uncovered, got off and threatened him with a gun, punching him in the face and stealing his wallet.
The robbers allegedly attempted to hit other passengers waiting before fleeing. The young man was accompanied to the police station by his mother, who also wrote to the deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli to ask for urgent interventions against the spread of crime.
«Piazza Garibaldi, the gateway to Naples and a hub for thousands of people every day, must be manned 24 hours a day – declared Borrelli –. Citizens and tourists must be able to feel safe, even while waiting for a bus.
We need more officers, more cameras and clear penalties for those who commit crimes. Faced with a government that continues to close down places like police stations and barracks, we will continue to ask for a greater presence of law enforcement on the territory".
The episode puts the spotlight back on the security alert in the central station area, often the scene of muggings, robberies and assaults.
