Giugliano in Campania – The Carabinieri 's crackdown on the fires in the Land of Fires continues unabated . A fourth arrest has been made in just a few hours, demonstrating a targeted effort to combat a phenomenon that continues to threaten the environment and public health.
A 44-year-old man from Castel Volturno, already known to the police, has been arrested and is believed to be responsible – together with two other individuals, a 45-year-old Nigerian man and a 41-year-old Italian woman – for the fire that broke out in recent days in via Vicinale Trenga, in Giugliano.
The man was framed by video surveillance footage in the area. According to investigators' reconstruction, the footage clearly shows the 44-year-old man stoking the flames by throwing more waste onto the blaze, contributing to its spread.
The incident is part of a broader series of checks and operations conducted by the Operational Intervention Team of the 10th Campania Regiment, which is on the front lines of the fight against environmental crimes in an area plagued for years by illegal fires. Following his arrest, the man was placed under house arrest pending his appearance before the judicial authorities.
